Origin

The Chameleon appeared in the City of Eastport, spreading panic. The Grim Reaper's alter ego, Bill Norris, was there representing a group of citizens interested in the Mayor's bond issue. The mayor and Treasurer Dorne were thinking of calling it off due to the Chameleon. The Mayor explained that the villain was out to destroy Eastport, making it a poor investment risk.

As the Grim Reaper, Norris investigated and found the Chameleon ramming a trolley car barn with a trolley. They fought, but the villain escaped. At Wilson Square, the Chameleon threw two hand grenades into the Civic Auditorium, on the other side of town.

The Reaper investigated the villain's previous activities via the newspaper back issues, when the Chameleon burst into where he was staying. After being given the slip, Reaper noted the fingerprints on his door knob. He hypothesized that Chameleon could move around so quickly because he was secretly two people. However, the fingerprints were always the same. However, the ones he found were different, and the police identified them as belonging to City Treasurer Dorne' Grim Reaper broke into Dorne's house and discovered four Chameleons. The leader turned out to be Dorne, who murdered to cover up his embezzlement of most of Eastport's bank funds. He traced the Reaper via his access to police phone calls.

The Reaper explained that when Dorne's hands came into contact with a janitor's hydrochloric acid cleaning materials, it melted the plastic gloves being used to simulate the same fingerprints on each "Chameleon".

Notes

  • The Nedor comics were renewed by Popular Library, which was eventually bought out by Fawcett Books. When Fawcett went out of business, Popular Library was sold to Warner Bros. A number of different publishers, however, are currently/have been using these characters without any lawsuits from Warner Bros., so any action over them is (probably) unlikely. They are still, however, "use at your own risk" characters.
