Hap Holliday, the "Time Skipper," travels through time in his "Year in an Instant" Time Yacht, a spherical time conveyance making past and future travel instantly available. Professor Eon Tempus helped with designing and constructing the yacht, and accompanies Hap on his adventures.
In their first outing, the pair visit the year 100,001. The pair encounters a dry seabed with giant crab-like creatures and a giant, land-traversing octopus.
Shooting the octopus with his rifle, Hap rescues Ula, Queen of Futuropolis. Futuropolis has been overtaken by the reptile-people, who drove the Ula's people out of Futuropolis. Hap returns to the day of Ula's banishment to set things aright.
