Golden Age Origin

Miss Betty was a woman in late-1800s Colorado who disguised herself as a headless ghostly cowboy. With her horse, Black Beauty, she fought crime in the Wild West.

Before becoming the Headless Horseman, she was a school teacher frustrated by the rampant crime in the Wild West and decided to do something about it. Thus, she made a particularly tall and broad shirt and put herself inside it. She could see through the gap in the shirt but, it appeared to everyone else that the rider was headless.

In her second published adventure, she dealt with Alex Trush, owner of the Bar-X Ranch, and his gang, creating a fake Headless Horseman straw dummy to frame the hero for their crimes. However, the real Headless Horseman successfully trapped the wanted men for the Sheriff; to whom they confessed their crimes once they are caught.
