Origin[]

The Wicked Queen once ordered the Huntsman to take Snow White into the deepest woods to be killed. She demanded as proof that Snow White is dead, he return with her lungs and liver. The huntsman took Snow White into the forest. After raising his knife, he found himself unable to kill her as she sobbed heavily and begged him: "Oh, dear huntsman, don't kill me! Leave me with my life, I will run into the forest and never come back!". The huntsman left her behind alive, convinced that the girl would be eaten by some wild animal. He instead brought the Queen the lungs and liver of a young boar, which was prepared by the cook and eaten by the Queen.

The Queen was later horrified to learn that the huntsman had betrayed her and that Snow White was still alive.

Notes[]

  • In the original story, the huntsman was not given a name but, in the public domain 1912 musical, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and the 1916 film, Snow White, the huntsman was named Berthold.
