Golden Age Origin
An evil scientist named Ivan Q. Fitzhugh, also known as the Mastermind, created machines that could temporarily give him lightning powers like Lash Lightning by harnessing the power of thunderstorms. So, he annexed another scientist's castle because it was located near constant storms and built his machines. However his experiments gave him an unusual side-effect and changed his appearance making his eyes turn jaundice and his skin pale.
He later rescued the Mummy planning to use his radium coated bandages to unlock the secrets of invulnerability. However, the Mummy and Mastermind could not cooperate with each other and Mastermind ended up killing his ally before unlocking his secrets. His evil plans were always stopped by his nemesis Lash Lightning.
His powers included lightning projection, teleportation, and limited super strength. He was also a genius with a self-described "super brain." Besides his intellect and powers Mastermind also was skilled in hand to hand combat and marksmanship using weapons such as swords and firearms at times.
