Press Guardian

Real Name

Perry Chase

First Appearance

Pep Comics #2 (1940)

Original Publisher

Created by

Abner Sundell & Mort Meskin

Golden Age Origin

Perry Chase was the son of the publisher of the Daily Express. He wanted to be a reporter and begged his father for a chance. His Father told him to continue to cover reporting on high society's doings because only real men can be reporters and his seemingly wimpy and unintelligent son was not a real man. However, little did his father know that his son was in fact the Press Guardian, defender of the first amendment and crimefighter.

Reporter and son of Daily Express publisher.

He had no powers but seems to be bulletproof (no mention of a vest), he was a skilled fighter (taking on multiple men at the same time) and carried two handguns. Aided by his valet, Baldwin (who drives the car and pilots their bi-plane) and Cynthia Blake (his secretary).

Golden Age Appearances

  • Pep Comics #2-11

  • Mentions The Wizard by name in Pep Comics #6.
  • Press Guardian is a retooled version of Falcon who appears in issue #1 of Pep Comics.
  • Press Guardian was not revived by Archie or DC comics unlike other MLJ superheroes.
