The Press Guardian
Perrychase

Real Name

Perry Chase

First Appearance

Pep Comics #1 (1940)

Original Publisher

MLJ

Created by

Jack Binder

Golden Age Origin

Perry Chase was the son of the Daily Express's publisher, who begged his father for a chance to be a reporter. Considering his son wimpy and unintelligent, his father told him to continue covering high society's doings because "only real men can be reporters." Unbeknownst to his father, however, Perry was in fact the Press Guardian (originally "the Falcon"), crime-fighter and defender of the first amendment.

Aided by his valet, Baldwin (who drives the car and pilots their bi-plane), and Cynthia Blake (his secretary).

Powers/Abilities

Seems to be bulletproof (no mention of a vest).

Golden Age Appearances

  • Pep Comics #1-11

Notes

  • While many sites claim "the Falcon" and "the Press Guardian" are two separate characters, this is just not true! In his first appearance, he was referred to by both names. As of his second appearance (and for all other appearances after that), the "Falcon" name was dropped.
    • Some sites even claim that, in his first appearance, his alter-ego was "Flash Calvert" however, that issue clearly shows Flash and the Falcon/Press Guardian as two different people (the Falcon/Press Guardian saves Flash from a bunch of mobsters and, in multiple panels, the two are shown standing side by side while talking to each other)!
Falconmlj

As the Falcon.
