Golden Age Origin

Satan was an immortal villain who originally appeared in Pocket Comics #1. He was originally an unnamed 15th century Spanish explorer who ventured into distant parts of North America in search of the Fountain of Youth. He eventually found it and drank from it, only to discover, much to his horror, that the water transformed him into a red, demonic being. Filled with profound self-loathing, he orchestrated all sorts of vicious crimes in hopes that somebody would be able to stop him and kill him for good.

By the time World War II began, Satan entered into an alliance with Adolf Hitler and embarked on several schemes designed to bring United States to its knees. He employed a number of henchmen, the most prominent of which was Satana, a supernatural femme fatale. (Not to be confused with Satana an enemy of Moon Girl.) He was opposed by air cadet Jim Brady, Spirit of '76, Agent 99 and Natas, a villain who looked nearly identical to Satan (his skin was yellow rather than red). While all of his opponents managed to kill him, Satan always returned to life, to his unending frustration.
