Origin[]

Formerly known as Paquette Guybertaut a.k.a Paquette Chantefleurie, Esméralda's mother. Originally a prostitute from Rheims. She longed for a child. She gave birth to a daughter she named Agnes but, Agnes was spirited away by Gypsies and a deformed child was left in Agnes' place. Paquette became a sachette, a nun who locks herself away and constantly prays. She thinks she hates Esméralda because she feels strong emotions and because Esméralda is a gypsy she just assumes it's hate that she feels instead of motherly love.

She died the day that Esméralda was executed. After trying to defend her daughter from the soldiers, she latched onto Esméralda as they dragged the gypsy away. Upon reaching the gibbet, and as they started to carry Esméralda up to hang her, Paquette jumped up and bit the hangman's hand. She was pried off, where she fell and hit her head on the cobblestones. And didn't move again.
